Gefei Liu is a creative producer, production manager, playwright, and theatermaker from Chongqing, China, and is currently residing in Los Angeles. She is drawn to themes including feminism, censorship, diaspora, and individual experiences - subjects that ignite curiosity and foster meaningful debates – through imaginative and impactful storytelling. While embracing the initial charm of narration in conventional theatre, Gefei is committed to pushing boundaries and expanding the theatrical experience across alternative spaces, mediums, forms, disciplines, and languages.
Her works have been shown locally and internationally, including producing, playwriting, and production management works at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, REDCAT, The Walt Disney Modular Theater (MOD Theater) at CalArts, Wuzhen Theatre Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, etc.
Currently pursuing her MFA in Producing at CalArts, Gefei is set to graduate in May 2024.
Experienced in working with a global team, Gefei enjoys navigating the digital realm, mastering Zoom both as a communication tool and as a performance venue. In her spare time, she’s an amateur but enthusiastic climber and songwriter.
